Maritime Skills for Teens

BoatShop Summer Camp - High School

Grades 9th-12th

9AM-4PM - Monday August 4th - Thursday August 7th

High School Camp students will:

  • explore Gig Harbor aboard electric boats, and a Boston Whaler

  • learn the basics of sailing aboard Caledonia Yawl, Roxy Ann and Thunderbird No. 2, Pirouette

  • be introduced to Gig Harbor’s historic working waterfront aboard Veteran, in the Skansie NetShed and at the Eddon Boatyard shops

  • learn basic seamanship aboard the historical gig Porpoise

  • learn how to tie knots and how to dock and tie up a small boat

  • learn how to use a compass and how to read a chart

  • learn how to use Shipwright hand and power tools

  • learn how to work together while rowing a twelve station long boat

  • be introduced to navigation, how to use a compass, how to take sights, how to read charts and tide & current tables

What to bring to Camp each day to maximize your child's camp experience. Please bring with you each day:

1. A sack lunch - We have a refrigerator available to store food until lunch time

2. A water bottle

3. Sunscreen

4. A hat with a bill 

5. Closed toed shoes for work in the Shop

6. Water shoes for on the water activities

Please plan to allocate 30 minutes on Monday morning at 9am for camp orientation and registration with your child. Registration and drop off (9am) and pick up (4pm) will occur at the Boatyard house (brick house down the driveway) each day.
