Oar Making Program

Make a pair of oars - oars that are specifically sized for your own boat and your rowing style - while learning the ancient art of wooden oar making. Participants will use bench planes, spoke shaves, a spar gauge, and other classic woodworking tools. Classes are informal, meeting one day a week for a couple of  hours and continuing until your oars are ready for the water---up to twelve sessions. Gig Harbor BoatShop will supply all materials.

Limited to 2 people per class. Depending on woodworking experience, it takes eight to twelve sessions to make a pair of oars.

2024-25 Program Dates

Beginning November 6, 2024 and every Wednesday thereafter for up to twelve weeks from 5:30 to about 7:30. - Fall Sessions Full!

Beginning April 16, 2025 and every Wednesday thereafter for up to twelve weeks from 5:30 to 7:30.

Pricing

• Gig Harbor BoatShop members:  $175.00

• Non-members: $225.00

Cancellations

Cancellation outside of 45 days before beginning session starts - full refund.

Cancellation within 45 days.  If we are able to book another builder, full refund; if not, 50% refund.

No refund once classes have started.

In case of emergency, Gig Harbor BoatShop reserves the right to cancel and will refund in full.
