Splicing Class

Introduction to Marlinspike Seamanship, the 3-Strand Splice and double braid splice Class.

Marlinspike seamanship is the art of knots and splices in fiber and wire rope, both practical and decorative.


Students will learn:

  • The history and tools used for splicing.

  • Ropework and different types of lines (ropes).

  • Difference between knots and splices and when to use them.

  • Learn the basic 3-strand splice and whipping.

  • Learn the double braid splice


About the Instructor: Brent Wagner

Brent is a lifelong sailor, boatwright and rigger who relocated to Gig Harbor from Barnegat Bay, NJ.

Brent also runs our Thursday Boat Restoration and Repairs Program. He is Pictured here leading the group in restoring the BoatShop’s Eddon Wherries.
