This Boat is being built as a part of the Gig Harbor BoatShop’s Young Hands New Skills program. This program is devoted to teaching local high school students boat building skills while working with our master boatwright Tom Regan. You will have the unique opportunity watch the building process at the Gig Harbor BoatShop.

The Elfyn is a modern version of the traditional Norwegian Faering (meaning four-oars). Faerings are noted for their seaworthiness and ease of rowing, even when fully loaded. The raking ends and flaring sides provide a great deal of reserve buoyancy, and the narrow waterline lets them move easily through the water. Boats similar to these were the primary means of transportation until roads were built.

The Elfyn was drawn by noted small-craft designer Iain Oughtred to be a lighter and handier version of the traditional working boats. The marine plywood construction makes a durable, leak-proof hull, and the uncluttered interior makes cleaning and maintenance easier.

This boat can easily accommodate three adults and their gear. She can rowed by either one or two rowers, two pairs of Norwegian-style oars are included.
