MMP Project #1

1964 Chris-Craft Super Sport

The first project of the Maritime Mentorship Program provides an intensive one-on-one master-apprentice environment where master boat restoration expert Bruce Bronson will share detailed hands-on skills, techniques and restoration knowledge with primarily college-aged interns. This project is scheduled for completion by June of 2016 and will involve the complete restoration of a rare 1964 Chris-Craft Super Sport runabout. The public is welcome 10:00am to 4:00pm on most Thursdays and Fridays, call the BoatShop to confirm (253) 857-9344.

Interns will benefit from Mentor Bronson's accumulated skill, knowledge, and historical perspectives.  They will fully participate in the practical hands-on work of every phase of the restoration project. Participants will come away from the project with a thorough understanding of vintage mahogany runabout restoration and its processes.  They will gain skills and perspective that will allow them to further pursue a marine trades occupation or avocation.  Lastly, interns will have the rare opportunity to work with a master craftsman who has a sincere passion regarding his craft; a component of work often overlooked in today's competitive educational environment.
